My goal has been to relieve some of that pressure by hosting the ultimate one-stop-shop for families to get ready for the year.” The First Lady hosted more than 500 children at each event where they enjoyed playing in a bounce house, met animals at the petting zoo and cooled off with snow cones. In addition to free water bottles, beauticians from Central Hair School provided complimentary haircuts, and representatives from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services were available to highlight resources to assist families. The Oklahoma City Thunder brought a bus full of books and the First Lady recruited the likes of Tinker Bell, Cinderella and Rapunzel to join in the celebrations. After enjoying the festivities, attendees closed out the evening by receiving a backpack full of supplies for the school year, including pencils, erasers, rulers, colored pencils, markers, notebooks, highlighters, scissors, pencil sharpeners, colored folders, disinfectant wipes and the donated Simple Modern water bottles.
